'That’s how this self-care message was born. It began in 2000 with my dear girlfriend Fleur Whelligan. It was a vision combining our professional know-how with ideas and real-life situations plucked from both our own lives and those around us, to write our first book that we hoped would benefit thousands of women searching - just like us. We did, and nine months later it was received with great excitement. We toured and spoke to women in New Zealand, Australia and South Africa to find that ALL women identify with the same needs - and desperately want tools to help them achieve the balance and happiness they crave in their own lives.
Ten years on and four books later, we found ourselves with a newly written Like Chocolate for Women, but this time with twenty years of experience and a few more books behind us, taking the knowledge of all the work we have done and combining all our written work into an easy dip-into book. It’s a book that can be your tool, your support and even your refuge as you face life’s many challenges.
Since working together over the years we have faced many of our own challenges. Many a time the steep learning curve of motherhood and relationships has had us pick up the phone and call each other for support. When we each lost loved ones in our families we learned the true meaning of friendship and what it is to be there for someone in pain. We have faced hard financial times together and even moved countries in 2006 from New Zealand to Australia where we had to pull on all our resources to settle children, make new friends and re-establish ourselves in the business world.
So what is Like Chocolate For Women and Twenty8 - and who am I now? I am very proud and excited to say that I have a new business partner, someone who has come on board to help me take this message to the world. Someone who was inspired by a talk Fleur and I gave many years ago and has travelled the self-care journey with us. Stacy MacKellar is a phenomenal soul. Her business prowess is not to be under-estimated. Her love and passion for health, fitness and beauty admirable and she is an inspiring soul in her own right. You never know what is around each corner but I am forever grateful for what Fleur gave me to start this journey and what Stacy has given me to continue it.
A celebration and acknowledgment of womanhood!
Well girls I am here to help, I am here to educate, hopefully to inspire, to support and to remind you that self-care is not selfish – it’s essential.
So come on the Like Chocolate For Women journey, discover nature’s wonderful self-care tools, drop the guilt, learn to make yourself a priority and start to nurture yourself again - inside and out. Like Chocolate For Women is about creating a happy, healthy, fulfilled and contented life. It's about budgeting but not going without. It's about indulging but not feeling guilty. It's about getting as close to a chemical-free lifestyle as possible and using the most extraordinary gifts from nature in beauty and natural skincare, health and fitness, spirit and soul. It's not only about finding that inner spark and holding onto it - but actually doing something with it. It's about creating a legacy, making a difference and inspiring change.
Take care, indulge and enjoy!
PS. I would really like to acknowledge a lot of the images and photography in the books I have written and co-written as we use many of the images on our sites. Many thanks to Luci Harrison and Suzanne Hall in NZ and Leanne Harrison in Australia. Your creativity and skill helped capture our messages beautifully, thankyou from the bottom of my heart.
